100 Words or Less: Saving Private Ryan

With each repeated viewing of Saving Private Ryan, it becomes increasingly difficult to figure out how this movie did not win Best Picture. Steven Spielberg created a movie that offers up one of the most accurate and haunting depictions of war to ever be filmed, something that has won him justified praise. Tom Hanks gives one of his most powerful performances, the reality of the situation fully realized by all these men desperate just to get home. This is a war film that is an experience, with the viewer fully immersed into a world that now seems so far away.

I’ve watched this film a shameless 100+ times since it was released. An immense achievement and a subject very close to Speilbergs heart. It’s the film he always wanted to make as a kid and I don’t think he’s topped it yet. (with the exception of Schindler’s List-which was earlier and on another level)
