100 Words or Less: “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”

Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was forced to undergo a series of changes following the death of its star, Heath Ledger. Gilliam enlisted Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law to substitute for Ledger during different phases in his character’s journey through the Imaginarium: an alternate dimension where visions of one’s imagination are materialized. Gilliam has created a trippy visual ride with a fascinating story and collection of characters. Unfortunately, the narrative changes forced by Ledger’s death affect the intricacies of the script, making it difficult to watch without dwelling on lingering thoughts of what-could-have-been.
