100 Words Or Less: “The Wrestler”

Talk about Oscar snubs. Not only did Mickey Rourke not win Best Actor, but The Wrestler didn’t even get nominated for Best Picture in 2009. I’m not sure what the voters had against this, but it is one of those films that transcends not only the year it was released, but the entire genre that it is in. Rourke delivers a stirring performance in what will have to be considered one of the best sports movies of all-time. It takes unexpected turns and never settles for the easy way out, not only indicative of Rourke’s character, Randy, but of fantastic storytelling in general.
