100 Words Or Less: “But I’m A Cheerleader”

This isn’t a movie worth noting simply because of the subject matter it tackles, but it’s actually pretty damn funny in the process. Natasha Lyonne stars as Megan, a girl who is sent to a school that attempts to reform gay teenagers into heterosexuality. While it does end up becoming a rather predictable plot, the enjoyment lies much more in the satire of these “straight camps,” stuffing gender roles to the point of everything boy-related being blue with everything for the girls draped in pink. Originally given an NC-17 rating (a debate in itself), this quirky, but important film continues to fuel one of the most polarizing social issues of this generation.
