So, A Magic 8-Ball Movie Is A Go, But Anchorman 2 Is Not Happening?

How’s this for some cinematic injustice? Fans of what has become one of the best comedies of the last decade – Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy – have been teased for the last few years with talks of a possible sequel. Now comes the news that Paramount essentially passed on the project, even after the budget was reduced and the stars have been willing to cut their salaries just to make this happen. This was obviously more than just a movie to be made for the money; these guys truly wanted to make this, and with that kind of enthusiasm, Anchorman 2 could have been epic.

Meanwhile, Paramount feels it would be better off pursuing a movie about the Magic 8-Ball. Yes, it is exactly what you are thinking – that little black ball that, after you shook it up, had all the answers to your life’s questions. This is so many levels of stupid that it’s hard for me to determine where to start insulting this idea.

It’s a sad day in Hollywood when Anchorman 2 gets passed because of concerns of what kind of box office it would generate, but a movie about a toy, and one that remains fun for about five minutes, is supposed to be a major hit?
