Late last week, we got a look at the “after credits” Easter egg scene in Iron Man 2 that reveals Thor, or at least his weapon. The scene has been pulled via Paramount’s request, but here’s how it goes down. From MTV’s Splash Page blog:
Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), who has an expanded role in “Iron Man 2,” steps out of the vehicle. He looks out over a massive crater, surrounded by various vehicles.
“Sir, we’ve found it,” he says into his phone.
The camera pans out to reveal what’s at the center of the crater. It’s…
Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer!
Now, through a reader tip (once again, loyal reader cellulloyd from the UK), we also know that Captain America’s Shield shows up in the film. Videos of this also surfaced yesterday, but have since been pulled. More after the jump (minor spoiler alert)…
Agent Coulson is once again involved in this scene. Tony Stark has been placed on “perimeter” inside his home by S.H.I.E.L.D. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury even goes as far as to say, “I’ve got my eye on you.” Stark’s assignment is to pay attention to his father Howard Stark’s advice, left via a film reel from 1974. In it, he will find the answer to the riddle that is his dying heart (the power source which keeps him alive is literally killing him, and the suit is speeding up that process). He eventually figures out this riddle, and needs to go back into “hardware mode” in his basement to build the new power source. That’s when Coulson pops up and says that Stark broke perimeter.
Coulson then spots Captain America’s shield — yes, it’s still lying around like it was in Iron Man — and picks it up. He asks what it is doing there, but Stark just answers by telling him to bring it to him. Stark is having trouble leveling a large pipeline and wedges it underneath and…perfect! Maybe Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau are just letting us know what they think about the casting choice of Chris Evans? Regardless, it’s a great bit of foreshadowing as to how Stark will interact with the other Avengers. Here are the screenshots, in chronological order.
