First Look: Hank Azaria as Gargamel in The Smurfs
Why is that homeless guy taking a dump in the middle of New York City? Actually, that’s our first look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel, who’s of course the villain in the upcoming Smurfs movie. Production is currently taking place up in NYC, and pictures taken during filming hit the Web over the weekend. Here is the official synopsis for the 3D CGI/live-action hybrid adaptation of the famous 80s cartoon:
In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
The flick also has a great voice cast, but what will be more important is its look. I think Gargamel looks pretty close. His nose probably should be a little bigger, but that’s my only real gripe. Well, that and the Little Nicky vibe I get — “the deep South.” Now, what we’re all going to really want to see is how the Smurfs look.
