Sofia Coppola’s New Movie Somewhere Has A Trailer

It’s been four years since writer/director Sofia Coppola’s misguided and utterly forgettable Marie Antoinette. Well, she’s back with a new film called Somewhere and methinks she learned her lesson to avoid biographical costume dramas for the rest of her days.

Somewhere stars Stephen Dorff, aka Deacon Frost from Blade, as a big time actor who decides to reevaluate his life and career after his daughter pays him a visit. Wait, Stephen Dorff is taking daddy roles now? What the f*ck?! I still remember him as a fresh-faced Stuart Sutcliffe in the very underrated Backbeat from 1994. He must have good genes because he doesn’t look much older.

Anyway, I watched the trailer three times already and I’m liking the mood Coppola has created. It has a dream-like quality which is what made Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides so appealing. It’s all about atmosphere and slowly building character as the plot progresses. She’s at her best when she sticks to that formula. Somewhere definitely fits the bill. Oh, and yes that’s Dakota Fanning’s little sis Elle playing Dorff’s daughter. I’m not sure how old she is, but I know she’s far from legal, so back off all you sicko perverts.
