The Movie Poster Stink Eye

For some odd reason I found myself image searching 2010 movie posters last night. I often do random searches just to see the results. Most of the time I get bupkis, but every so often I’ll make a discovery, which probably will be of interest to me and me alone.  Nevertheless, I noticed a trend with this year’s crop of posters. A number of them feature a close-up of the main character’s face as they deliver what can best be described as, the “stink eye.” Take a gander.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Splice

Shutter Island

Robin Hood

The Wolfman

I guess it’s supposed to be intimidating and/or mysterious. To me, they look weird and silly. Then again, maybe the marketing wizards behind all these flicks were hoping to capture some of the magic generated by a similar poster from 2009.

That movie turned out okay. Right The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader?

Hey, it’s the sincerest form of flattery, or so I’ve been told.
