Trent Reznor Is Scoring Fincher’s The Social Network
If you’re a fan of both the film and music mediums, then you likely have a list of musicians who you think should score films. A lot of the musicians who were once on my short list already have. RJD2′s “A Beautiful Mine” has been used for Mad Men. James Murphy scored Greenberg. Jack White basically was the music for Cold Mountain. Same with Eddie Vedder and Into the Wild. But at the top of my list has always, always been Trent Reznor.
I think the man was born to score films (check out the game Quake if you don’t believe me). Not just films, David Fincher films. That’s why when Trent Reznor announced on the NIN site that he is scoring Fincher’s The Social Network (via Collider)I just about lost my damn mind. This Fincher-Reznor pairing is a match made in heaven that’s bound to raise hell.
I wasn’t excited about this project at all at first. That’s about the time Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg started taking a lot of heat over Facebook’s ethics and policies. Then I found out Jesse Eisenberg, who I’ve been tracking since Roger Dodger, was starring. Next, Fincher’s teaser surfaced (last week) and it reveals that the film will examine just how many, and I’m filling in the blanks here, throats you have to slit to get to 500 million friends. Finally, there was the recent discovery that the film will include a score by none other than Reznor. Now I’m positive that this movie is going to blow our minds come October 1.
If you aren’t sold, just check out this quote from Reznor:
“Speaking of the film… it’s really f***ing good. And dark!”
And if you can think of a better director-musician pairing for a film/score, we’d love to here it in the comments section, because I think this is just about the ultimate collaboration right here.
