Twilight Producers Snag Rights to Babar the Elephant

If you’ve been dying to see movies about Babar the elephant, and frankly who hasn’t, then it’s time to do a happy dance. Via Deadline, Twilight Saga producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey have struck a deal with the rights holders to Babar to make a series of family flicks about the life and times of the precocious pachyderm.

The plan is to incorporate live-action with CGI. My assumption is Babar will be the one getting the CGI treatment, but I suppose they could go the other way and have everything but the elephant be CGI. Or maybe they could do a wicked cool Twilight crossover and have Edward Cullen turn Babar into a vampire. Then we can all turn away in horror (or laugh maniacally) as the beloved Babar slaughters his jungle brothers and sisters during a bloodsucking rampage. Whatever the case, it will be hard to top Babar’s best big screen performance in the ’80s comedy classic, Fletch.
