Saturn Awards 2013: Jennifer Lawrence Wins Best Actress for The Hunger Games

The Saturn Awards honor the best that genre films have to offer but that didn’t stop an Academy Award winning actress from getting in on the action. Jennifer Lawrence took home the Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and she can add another Best Actress award to her mantle.

Lawrence took home the Saturn Award for Best Actress for her role in the wildly successful and popular film The Hunger Games.

In winning the award she again beat out Jessica Chastain who was up for a Saturn Award for the same role in Zero Dark Thirty that garnered her an Oscar nomination back in February.

But Lawerence’s role was pretty far removed from the one that had he falling head over heels on her way to picking up an Oscar. The Hunger Games ended up having a surprisingly wide reach at the box office and it established Lawrence as not only a leading actress, but a box office action hero star.

Helen Mirren was up for a Saturn as well for her role in Hitchcock which goes to show that Lawrence has now twice beat out very prestigious competition on her way to an award for Best Actress.

The Hunger Games seems to be a franchise now as a sequel is set to hit theaters soon and it’s popularity with audiences only seems to be rising. The same can be said for Lawrence who now has the respect of more than one sect of Hollywood and is well on her way to becoming an iconic actress for her generation.
