Hollywood is mourning the loss of veteran actor Dennis Farina today. The actor best known for his roles in Law and Order as well as various movies throughout the years, died Monday after a blood clot developed in his lung.
Farina was 69 years old.
Best known for his role as a tough cop on Law and Order, Farina actually started out as a real life cop in his hometown of Chicago. He was the only main cast member of any of the shows to have actually been in law enforcement which helped make his role such a favorite among fans of the show.
But while he’s well known on television, Farina landed various roles in films over the years that are still adored by fans today.
Farina almost always played the role of a police officer or detective in his films, but one of his best roles was when he stretched to the other side of the law in Guy Ritchie’s 2000 film Snatch, where he played a gangster trying to hunt down a diamond in hilarious fashion. He had a similarly hilarious role in Get Shorty, showing in both films as well as in others throughout his career, that he possessed impeccable comic timing.
TMZ was first to report that Farina died from an apparent blood clot in his lung while in Scottsdale, Arizona.
