Exclusive Releasing has dated Parkland for September 20, 2013. This should give it a prime opportunity to be considered for the awards season following it’s North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival just a few days earlier.
Parkland takes place at Parkland Hospital on November 22, 1963, one of the most tragic days in American history. The film follows a handful of people that were forced to make split-second decisions following the world-altering event: the doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital, the chief of the Dallas Secret Service, the cameraman who captured the footage of Kennedy being killed, the FBI Agents who had Lee Harvey Oswald within grasp and Vice President Lyndon Johnson.
Novelist Peter Landesman makes his directorial debut. Landsman adapted the screenplay from Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Vincent Bugliosi. Playtone and The American Film Company financed the film. The film is being produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Nigel Sinclair, Matt Jackson, and Bill Paxton.
The film stars Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, and Paul Giamatti. James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, David Harbour, Ron Livingston, and Jeremy Strong are also in the cast for the film that is sure to be nominated.
