David O. Russell has been on a bit of a hot streak lately. His last two films, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook proved to be Oscar darlings and has catapulted Russell into the spotlight as one of Hollywood’s best and most consistent working directors.
His newest film, American Hustle, looks to continue that trend.
And for a director famous for not having the best relationship with his actors (or at least George Clooney and Lily Tomlin, anyway), he seems to have created quite the bond with a few of them during his last couple of films.
Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence star is Russell’s latest, a period drama about the FBI’s infamous sting, “Abscam”, which landed a few prominent politicians in federal prison. Bale plays a con artist turned FBI informant, Cooper is an FBI agent and Adams and Lawrence play Bale’s squeeze/accomplice and wife respectively.
It’s a neat little trailer that gives little in the way of plot, but introduces personalities quite well. The music, Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times, Bad Times”, adds a lot of urgency and a little bit of commentary to what we see on screen.
Louis C.K., Michael Pena and Jack Jones also star in American Hustle, which gets wide release this December.
