It was leaked a month ago that action star Vin Diesel was in talks to join an upcoming Marvel movie and we now know even more details about that rumor. While it was thought that the Fast and Furious star would be signing up to join Avengers: Age of Ultron, a report from Deadline says that Diesel is in talks to join Guardians of the Galaxy, which is the Marvel ensemble movie set to precede the 2015 sequel to Avengers.
Vin Diesel just might be Groot. The Fast and The Furious franchise actor is in negotiations to join Marvel’s newest ensemble tent pole, I’ve learned. If it all works out, Vin Diesel would play the tree-like alien in the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy, sources say.
Diesel also teased the rumor by posting a picture of Groot on his official Facebook page, a tactic that helped reveal to the world that the actor was in the running to play a Marvel character in the first place.
While Guardians of the Galaxy may not feature headline Marvel characters, it makes up for it with a cast loaded with talent. Already the film stars Chris Pratt, Benicio del Toro, Zoe Saldana and Glenn Close with Diesel now in talks to add even more power to that billing. Marvel has had massive success before with their casting choices and Diesel seems to be a natural fit for a comic book movie and we will now get to see how well it works out for him.
