It’s no secret that Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro is a huge fan of movies. He’s arguably the biggest fanboy working in the industry right now. He worships directors like Alfred Hitchcock and Ishiro Honda and makes films that are not only inspired by those filmmakers but are dedicated to them.
The truth is, del Toro owes so much of his own unique style to great directors past and he knows it. The man is a total film geek and really an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers all over the world that you if you have the kind of raw passion del Toro (not to mention his immense talant and singular vision), anyone can make a name for themselves in this crazy business called show business.
And in case you need convincing that del Toro is just a huge geek at heart, look no further for proof than this video, which is making the rounds this morning.
During a Japanese press run for his latest film, Pacific Rim, a Japanese film crew followed del Toro as he takes in the sights. And it’s a joy to watch.
Thanks to Topless Robot for the video:
Pacific Rim is still in theaters, but will be available to own on home video soon.
