A tweet from Exhibitor Relations is reporting that Michael Bay‘s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, directed by South African director Jonathan Liebesman and starring Megan Fox, has been pushed back from its original June 6th, 2014 window to August 8th, 2014.

Cowabunga, dude! Paramount has pushed TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES by two months: IN-8/8/14 OUT-6/6/14.

Earlier in the week I expressed how getting pushed back in the fall is actually a good thing. The other side of that is shown here: getting pushed back from June to August is not a good thing as August releases are typically stragglers in the summer box office bunch.
The new date will see the green reptiles crash into theaters a week after Disney/Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and a week before The Expendables 3. It’s a tight window and not really one that guarantees any huge box office return, but it seems the studio is trying to ride the wave Guardians will create into a period that looks to capitalize on the huge, established, kid-friendly name of TMNT in the midst of a likely R-rated rest of the month.
The film is currently in production in New York City, NY.
