With three more films before writer/director Joss Whedon‘s mega-blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron, many new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are sure to be introduced. Some are sure to make early appearances in Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and/or Guardians of the Galaxy. But some are sure to make their debut appearance on the fly in the second Avengers film.
One of those characters is reportedly to be the Scarlet Witch (and her twin brother Quicksilver). Both of those characters are part of X-Men canon, but Whedon has expressed an interest to include the future Avengers in his next film.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2) has expressed public interest in Quicksilver and is reportedly in talks with Marvel to feature in the concluding chapter of Marvel’s Second Phase. And while Whedon at first had his sights on Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) to play the Scarlet Witch, she quickly denied the call. But Bleeding Cool has the report that Whedon might have found his girl for the Scarlet Witch after all in Martha Marcy Mae Marlene, Silent House American rising star, Elizabeth Olsen.
The site points out that Olsen would need to don a European accent to match Taylor-Johnson’s English accent (both are the offspring of Magneto, after all). But Olsen is a more than compitant actor who should have no trouble covering that little stipulation.
There is still no confirmation from Disney, Marvel, Whedon or Olsen on this, but BC seems confidant that the casting is very plausible. We will have to wait and see.
