The guys behind Jackass are too old and broken to star in a fourth film where they torture their bodies for our amusement. But that doesn’t mean they’re going away as last month it was announced Johnny Knoxville would be resurrecting his character ‘Bad Grandpa’ for a film of the same name. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa saw a pseudo-trailer released during Sunday night’s Video Music Awards on MTV, which came hours after the first poster for the film had been released online.
In the trailer for the film, Knoxville’s Irving Zisman needs to find a lift for himself and his grandson to the VMA’s, so they hitch a ride on a sketchy ice cream truck where they find Robin Thicke and a slew of scantly clad women.
The first official poster for the film was released just hours prior and featured Knoxville in a similar style to the other Jackass posters that have accompanied the three previous films.
We will have to wait until October to see if the Jackass crew still has it in them to be funny. Knoxville has unfortunately been at his funniest when things are being rammed against his gentiles, fully embracing the Jackass moniker. Other than that, he’s only had one or two decent roles in actual films and The Ringer is likely his only passable leading role.
Jeff Tremaine is also a first time director in the sense that all his previous efforts have been cinematic ports of his television series Jackass. Tremaine did however produce and direct an outastanding documentary for ESPN about the life and career of BMX pioneer Mat Hoffman, so there is hope that Bad Grandpa won’t be a total Knoxvillian shot to the gonads of fans.
