Simon Pegg will always be a sci-fi fan at heart, which is why his roles in franchise films like Mission Impossible and Star Trek are so interesting. It adds a level of geekdom that takes you deeper into the movie and adds levels to the enjoyment. Plus, Simon Pegg is spot on in almost everything he does and the people he works with love him.
Proof of that is seen in a recent quote by X-Files creator Chris Carter, Pegg’s work with X-Files star Gillian Anderson was referenced in a positive way. Anderson worked with Pegg on the film How to Lose Friends And Alienate People and told Carter about what a joy it was to work with him and how big of an X-Files fan the actor is.
In speaking about the possibility of a third X-Files film, Carter states he originally wanted to cast Pegg in a role in the second movie and is looking to find a place for him in a third film.
“Gillian [Anderson] worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me he was a big fan,” Carter said, via THR.com. “We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.” Mulder, Scully and Simon Pegg? Yes, suddenly a third X-Files seems like a very good idea indeed.”
There’s two nuggets to take away from that blurb. The first and most obvious of which is Carter is in talks to try and produce a third X-Files film, one that could still be tied into the 25th anniversary of the show’s beginning.
The other is that Pegg continues to find work in projects he dreamed of growing up in England. He’s already secured a significant role in Star Trek and may end up getting cast in Star Wars as well. Adding X-Files to that makes Pegg one of the most envied actors working today, and his string of geekdom roles likely won’t end anytime soon.
