In one of the more surprising casting moves over the course of the past week, veteran movie actor Kurt Russell has joined the cast of the action film Fast and Furious 7, pairing him with the likes of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jason Statham. According to a report in Variety, Russell will be playing the part that Oscar winner Denzel Washington turned down earlier this year.
After bringing out a fresh face in UFC star Ronda Rousey to join the cast of “Fast & Furious 7,” Universal has moved onto veteran actor to join its acting ranks with Kurt Russell in negotiations to join the next installment. No description on who Russell would be playing, but sources say it is the role that Uni originally offered to Denzel Washington — clearly showing its importance to the films story.
While Washington seemed to be a long shot when he was offered the part, so did Russell when his name surfaced in rumors earlier this week. But as unlikely a name as Kurt Russell is to join the Fast and Furious films, it has become a reality.
Russell has been quite in his career since his career bottomed out in the mid-2000s after his role in the Quentin Tarantino film Death Proof. Where every single film up to that point saw Tarantino revive the career of one of his old acting favorites, Russell actually had the inverse effect as he went a full three years before showing up on film again.
But Russell seems to be back in the game and even with two forgettable titles in his filmography since Death Proof, he will always be remembered as Snake Plissken and Snake is back in a Fast and Furious way.
