Thor: The Dark World has yet to hit theaters, but director Alan Taylor has already booked his next gig and it has nothing to do with Thor, The Avengers or the Cinematic Marvel Universe. According to Variety, Taylor will be helming the sequel to 2009’s Terminator: Salvation, Terminator 5.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as Cyberdyne Systems model 101 after being absent (physically) from McG’s Salvation.
The film is set for a June 26th, 2015 release which means it will be apart of of one of the industry’s biggest box office years ever. Taylor and the film’s producers (not to mention the studio and actors) surely hope that Terminator 5 can revamp a series that has fallen out (no pun intended that time) of favor with mass audiences since the release of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
After spending the bulk of his career in television at some of the medium’s biggest shows like The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Oz, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones, Taylor seems to be making a serious bid at big, commercial filmmaking.
Ang Lee, Justin Lin, McG and even James Cameron have all been rumored at one point or another as being attached to the upcoming sci-fi epic.
More details to follow as we get it.
