Jeff Bridges Blasts R.I.P.D., Blames Studio for ‘Underwhelming’ Film

It’s not often that an actor blasts a movie he or she was in, but it does happen. Jim Carrey infamously disowned Kick-Ass 2 just prior to it’s release yet months after receiving a check for doing the film. Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Be Affleck have all lashed out against films they’ve starred in as well and you can now add Jeff Bridges name to that list as well.

While ‘His Dudeness’ didn’t go full out against R.I.P.D. he also didn’t have a glowing review of the final product. Bridges says while he loved shooting the film and enjoyed his experience, he’s not fond of the decisions the studio made in the editing process.

Per an interview with GQ Magazine:

I had such a great time working on that movie. I remember what we were doing. I thought, This could be fun to see. And when I saw it, I was a little underwhelmed. For my mind, the studio made some, uh, choices that I wouldn’t have made.

These comments fall in line between those of Pitt and Affleck, where they destroyed the actual filmmaking process, and those of Carrey where he objected to something in post-production. Bridges has earned the right to say what he wants, and he’s earned the reputation of a no nonsense type of guy.

It didn’t take an Academy Award winning actor — or an infant gorilla with half a brain and no thumbs — to recognize that R.I.P.D. was a mess, but having Bridges point out as mush solidifies just what a failure the film ended up being.
