The 2013 Emmy Awards are upon us and the best television has to offer have been honored. Even though most people may be watching Breaking Bad or the series finale of Dexter, not to mention the Sunday Night Football game between the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Emmy Award winners are being crowned and the festivities have moved on to the Drama categories.
While Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston was favored to win the award, it instead went to Newsroom star Jeff Daniels who many didn’t give much of a chance to take home the Emmy.
It was the night’s first upset in the Drama categories, which are largely favored to be going to Breaking Bad. However, the show has one year of eligibility left and isn’t the lock this year that it will be next year. There’s also the fact that Jeff Daniels has basically revived his career with his role as Will McAvoy on Aaron Sorkin’s hit HBO show. Before he was mainly known as the second half of the Dumb & Dumber duo but Daniels has embraced his truly talented side which has shown through in his surprise Emmy win.
While an upset, it’s not as though Daniels wasn’t deserving of the Emmy. The show will continue on which means Daniels may not be done collecting Emmys for his role on Newsroom.
