When Batman vs. Superman was finally announced at Comic-Con this past July, fans everywhere have been looking to get any information they can about what is going to be in store when the film is finally released in 2015. Screenwriter David S. Goyer hasn’t been quiet about the writing process so far and even went as far as to choose sides in a potential Batman vs. Superman showdown.
Goyer spoke at the BAFTA Screenwriter Lecture, via ComingSoon, this weekend and noted that the film is a lot further along than people think it is.
“One of the things that has been fun for us, is we’re a bit a further a long than what I think people realize. From a fan point of view, we’re conscious of that when you’re working on these things, but you can’t let yourself be paralyzed by that. At the end of the day you still have to creat something. And if you try and think, ‘Well what would the fans like’ then you stop being creative. It’s sort of like where does it end? You have to write the story that you want to write, and hope that people want to see it.”
In addition to giving an update on the process of writing the film, Goyer may have tipped his hand as to what could go down when Batman and Superman finally throw down their gloves and duke it out. Goyer said that despite comic book fans saying Batman is smarter than Superman, having a Man of Steel not win a fight against a human being doesn’t make sense.
“Most comic book purest would says Batman because he is the ultimate strategist. Even though it makes no sense what so ever. If Superman just flicked his finger Batman would be done for.”
Obviously anything can happen in Goyer’s script as he noted on the same day that he doesn’t abide by the “rules” of comic book characters, which is why he had Superman kill at the end of Man of Steel. Still, we know which corner Goyer is in for the Batman and Suerman fight, and given the fact he’s writing the picture, we may have a good feeling about who to bet on.
