Back in 1955, actor James Dean continued his arrival on the Hollywood icon scene with a legendary role in the big screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel East of Eden. Now almost 60 years after it’s initial release, Hollywood is going back to the well to revive East of Eden and have nabbed Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence as lead in the film.

Per a report from Deadline:

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer have closed a deal with the John Steinbeck estate for a new version of his seminal novel East Of Eden that will be developed as a re-team for The Hunger Games director Gary Ross and Jennifer Lawrence.

Oscar nominated director Gary Ross is leading the project, as East of Eden is apparently one of his favorite novels ever and he’s ready to get the film going after it stalled back in 2004. Back then, the novel shot back up the book charts thanks to that Oprah book stamp but it’s taken until now to fully get the project off the ground.

The film will be a reunion for Lawrence and Ross who both worked together on The Hunger Games. Are you excited to see a classic film being remade or is this a dangerous trend that could lead to other classics being remade in today’s Hollywood?
