ABC and Disney know what they’re doing when it comes to releasing material for their products at very opportune times. For the past two weeks we’ve seen Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. be a massive hit for ABC and they’ve used that time and popularity to roll out two new trailers for Thor 2, which hits theaters in roughly a month.
Last night saw the release of the latter of those two trailers, which featured some new footage from the sequel to the hit original film.
The importance of Thor to Marvel and it’s current comic book movie success is that it swiftly followed the 2008 hit Iron Man, something that not many people thought would be possible. Not that Iron Man was some pinnacle in filmmaking, but because comic book movies rarely rattled off repeat hits.
At the time, The Dark Knight was an anomaly in the world of comic book movies but Thor helped Marvel destroy that notion and make the production of quality comic book movies look like normal business. It is indeed now a normal business for Marvel and the release of Thor 2 will seek to continue the hit streak for Marvel and kick off the new phase with guts and glory.
