We are just months away from the long awaited release of Anchorman 2, which stars Will Ferrell reprising his role as the legendary Ron Burgundy. To get the masses stewing about the new film, Dodge Durango has partnered with film to produce a series of commercials where Ferrell, in character as Ron Burgundy, sells you a Dodge in the worst possible way.
It’s probably one of the only instances in history where having a terrible spokesman is the best thing for your product. In the first in a series of promos, Burgundy wants to tell you about the car’s ‘MPGs’ but can’t figure out that it’s an abbreviation:
We can expect to see more and more promotions from Ferrell in character as Burgundy as we near the release of the film. Anchorman 2 is set to follow up on the events of the first film, which has been quoted by frat boys and old SNL fans more times than we can count. The movie stands as Ferrell’s true breakthrough into film post-SNL, as even though Old School was a success, Anchorman is the first post-SNL character that Ferrell created that stuck.
The only question we have now is if the film will be any good. Judging from the promos for Dodge, it looks like we’re in for more of the same which when it comes to Ferrell, isn’t always a bad thing.
