Salma Hayek has signed on to help redevelop the CBS reboot of the classic western Cisco Kid which has already been ordered by the network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hayek has signed on alongside Lauren Shuler Donner o produce a modern tak on the western Cisco Kid which will update the story for today’s audiences.
The drama hails from producers Salma Hayek and Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men) with new writers Chad Damiani and J.P. Lavin (How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack) attached to pen the new script and serve as supervising producers.
The story of Cisco Kid has been around since he early 20th century when the story was first published by O. Henry in he the short story The Caballero’s Way but has since gone through various rendition on television and other mediums until this latest reboot came about. Hayek and Donner have been trying to reboot the story for a few years now, and it seems CBS is finally ready to give the duo a chance.
The Hollywood Reporter states that this update will not be a period piece stuck in the western genre and has been described as a blend between Fast & Furious and The Equalizer.
How well that transitions on the small screen is yet to be seen, but the Cisco Kid is coming back and it’s being rebooted in the most unlikely of ways.
