Donald Glover has made a name for himself on the cult NBC hit Community, but he announced recently that he’s leaving the show and implied some dark and dangerous thoughts on his Instagram account recently. Glover spoke to People magazine today to explain why he left messages on his account that sounded like he was suffering from a severe mental breakdown.
“That night, we had a show, and then afterwards, I had this moment of feeling like, ‘What’s the point? Why am I even here?’ ” Glover said, via People magazine. “I just wanted to write down my feelings. I definitely was just expressing myself.”
The actor stated that he was simply tired of people asking him if he was emotionally okay when he was really just tired from his long days at work. It all culminated in Glover posting messages on his Instagram that stated he was worried his parents were going to die before he had kids and that he was fearful his career would never go anywhere.
Glover emphasized to People that he’s not suffering from depression and was simply at the end of his rope due to exhaustion and nothing deeper or darker than that.
It’s a relief to fans of Glover who were disturbed by his random rants on Instagram and feared for his mental health. But while he has cleared the issue up, it’s still something people will try to talk about moving forward and there’s some justification in that given the mental health struggle currently going on in the country today.
