This week’s episode of The Walking Dead featured a massive twist at the end which saw major changes happen that could effect the future of the show. Be warned, if you haven’t seen this week’s episode, the one titled “Indifference”, then stop reading here as major spoilers lie ahead.
At the end of this week’s episode, Rick couldn’t bring himself to totally forgive Carol for admitting to him that she was the one who killed Karen and David and burned their bodies to try and stop the infection and their sickness. While she may have been justified in her actions, Rick can’t forgive her and banishes her from the prison.
But while he did it out of protection for her, he also did it out of respect for her and with the hope that she’ll be able to find more survivors. The question of Carol’s state of mind was brought up in the after show Talking Dead in which WWE wrestler Chris Jericho compared Carol to Breaking Bad‘s Walter White.
This raises a legitimate question now of whether the erosion of Carol’s psyche has warped her into the Walter White of The Walking Dead. As crazy a comparison as it sounds, Jericho may be onto something. Walter White went from timid school teacher to the most powerful drug dealer in the country and a similar path has been taken by Carol.
As we learned, Carol was a timid housewife type of character before the outbreak and was in an abusive relationship she learned to live with so that she didn’t have to be alone. She’s a aural caregiver who genuinely cared about people in the prison but she killed two people in cold blood and is training the children of the prison to use weapons and defend themselves.
Is this as evil as Walter White, not on the surface but the comparisons deserve to be discussed. Walter justified his actions by saying he was cooking for his family and Carol justifies cold blooded murder by saying it’s basically for the greater good.
We will have to watch Carol’s path now that she’s been banished from the prison, but Chris Jericho may have really been onto something and Carol could be the Walter White of The Walking Dead.
What do you think? Is Carol on the way to being evil, is she already there or are we misunderstanding her? Sound off in the comments section below and let us know.
