It’s been about a decade since we last saw the likes of Joss Whedon’s Firefly on television and almost as long since we’ve alt seen everyone’s favorite ragtag team of Browncoats. But while Whedon has finally gotten the critical praise he’s always deserved now that he’s over at Marvel, the possibility that we could return to the crew we all fell in love with isn’t an option that’s off the table.
According to Bleeding Cool, Firefly comic book artist Georges Jeanty recently spoke to fans about an upcoming miniseries that will pick up events following the Firefly show and tell the tale of what happened to the crew. This will of course be a comic boo series and not a television series but that didn’t stop Jeanty from talking fans off the ledge with encouraging words about a potential sequel to the show or movie.
“I thought just the opposite,” Jeanty said, via Bleeding Cool, when asked if the miniseries meant the end to any chances we’ll see live-action Firefly ever again. “I thought, especially when Joss was on it, this was something where if there was gonna be a film, he was working it out in comics first.”
That’s not really a confirmation that Jeanty’s miniseries will be adapted into or lead to more Firefly, but it’s awfully encouraging news. Whedon has ever had more clout to make more Firefly than he has now which means all that’s missing is he desire to continue the story.
There’s obviously an interest in doing that since the comic book miniseries plans on enacting this plan. If t leads to more live action material, we’ll have to see but there’s more hope than ever that this will indeed happen.
