There have been rumblings about a fifth Bourne film for a few months now with the wildest rumor claiming that Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon would return to the series. So far, those rumors have been shot down but the film seems to be moving ahead anyways and has found a director to helm the project.
According to Deadline, Fast & Furious 7 director Justin Lin has signed on to direct the next installment of the Bourne series.
Universal Pictures has tapped the director of one of the studio’s most lucrative and successful franchises to take on the fifth installment of The Bourne Identity franchise. Justin Lin will direct the the sequel to the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy, the pic that kicked off storyline of Aaron Cross, the character played by Jeremy Renner.
The series rebooted itself with the latest installment starring Jeremy Renner and despite so-so reception from critics, the series looks like it will indeed continue with Renner as the star of the franchise.
Lin has crafted a career around action in the most uncommon way, as he is responsible for reviving the Fast & Furious franchise and crafting it into the monster success it is today. The hope at Universal is that he can do the same to the Bourne franchise and so far, the prospects of that look very intriguing.
