It’s the time of year that just about every Oscar contender will be hitting the big screen if they have yet to do so already. While some people will wait until they are on Bluray or DVD before seeing these films, there are some of them that definitely need to be seen while they are playing in theaters.

Five films are big screen essentials. They are as follows:
The Wolf of Wall Street: With a running time of nearly 3 hours long, it will be easier to watch it on the big screen with less distractions. No computer, no phone calls, no pets needing to go outside. The only thing to worry about is missing the film due to a popcorn refill or bathroom call.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Special effects alone are enough to not wait before deciding to see it.

Gravity: If there is one film to see in 3D this year, it’s the movie that stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. They make great use of the space on screen to tell the story.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: Why you should see it on the big screen is because of Stuart Dryburgh’s cinematography. Plus, it’s from Ben Stiller.

12 Years a Slave: A film such of this is hard to watch and I suspect that it will be harder to watch at home than the big screen.
