The Golden Globes are being handed out tonight which means the best movies have to offer are being honored. While television is also be honored tonight, so too are the films of this past year. Part of the glory of the Golden Globes is that the Oscars are likely being predicted tonight, but even if the actors and their projects win tonight end up getting snubbed, they still at least have their Golden Globe moment in the spotlight.

Best Actress — Drama

Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine — WINNER
Sandra Bullock, Gravity
Judi Dench, Philomena
Emma Thompson, Saving Mr Banks
Kate Winslet, Labor Day

The win was hardly a surprise as Blanchett was phenomenal in Blue Jasmine and even overshadowed the brilliant Woody Allen. The fact that we are remembering Blue Jasmine for Blanchett’s performance and not that it’s a Woody Allen movie right there shows you how powerfully amazing her performance was.

Blanchett is one of the best actresses working today and this will hardly be her last chance at winning a Globe, but one thing we can bet on is her being a favorite for the Oscar in March.
