Oscars 2014: Best Director Nominations

The Oscar nominations were handed out this morning and we finally get to see what all the hype in 2013 will lead to. Awards season is upon us and everything will culminate with the Oscars in March when Ellen DeGeneres hosts the big show.

One of the big awards that will be handed out in March is Best Director. There was a lot of drama going into the nominations but even though there were some pretty aggressive snubs, there is a cal ear favorite moving forward.

The Academy loves David O. Russell, which means he’s the favorite this year but his closest competition is Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity. They were neck and neck at the Golden Globes and with Cuaron coming out ahead there, the stakes are only heightened on Oscar night.

Here’s the official Oscar nominations for Best Director:

Best Director

David O. Russell — American Hustle
Alfonso Cuaron — Gravity
Alexander Payne — Nebraska
Steve McQueen — 12 Years a Slave
Martin Scorsese — The Wolf of Wall Street
