Melissa McCarthy stopped by Saturday Night Live to host the pre-Super Bowl show but the night was notable for another reason as well. Seth Meyers will be stepping into his role as Late Night host in a few weeks which means tonight was his last night as co-host of Weekend Update. Meyers has been either the host or co-host of the Weekend Update for what seems like ages, as he started as a replacement for Tina Fey when he was partnered with Amy Poehler and flourished in the role from there. He went on to host the job alone before welcoming on co-host Cecily Strong this season who will take over as co-host when Meyers leaves. But while Meyers tenure as perhaps the best Weekend Update host in the show’s history has come to an end, he still had one more segment left in him and all the stops were rolled out to bid him farewell. Amy Poehler, Bill Hader and Andy Samberg all dropped by to bid Meyers farewell, with Hader’s Stefon getting defensive of Seth one last time. It was truly a hilarious and emotional moment that not many fans of the show will soon forget. Weekend Update will exist without Meyers, but the show and the segment will miss him dearly.
