Gotham casts The Walking Dead actor as The Penguin, Sean Pertwee as Alfred

We are getting closer and closer to filming on the FOX television series Gotham, which will serve as a prequel to the Batman story. The origin story is set in a time largely unexplored on film as we’ve only seen glimpses of Bruce wayne’s past on the show before.

Gotham will dive right into the nitty-gritty though and tell the story of what Gotham was like without Batman and without any hope of Batman showing up. We heard about Ben McKenzie landing the role of Jim Gordon over the weekend and today two more major roles were cast.

The Walking Dead actor Robin Lord Taylor has been cat as Oswald Cobblepot — better known as The Penguin — while Sean Pertwee has been cast as Alfred.

Per Variety:

Robin Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot, or the man better known as DC Comics villain the Penguin. … Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, will be played by Sean Pertwee.

The pilot episode of Gotham is set to air on FOX this fall which means it’s not a surprise to see these roles filled out. The only question is will why show stick or will it fall flat with fans — we’re hoping it’s not the latter.
