The force has been strong surrounding the production of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars Episode VII and the Force is also apparently strong with Girls star Adam Driver. After being rumored to be in the running for the role of Nightwing in Batman vs. Superman, Variety is reporting that Driver is set to land the role of the main villain in the new Star Wars movie.
Sources tell Variety that while no deal is done yet, the “Girls” actor is close to signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII.” Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader.
Driver’s name has come out of absolutely nowhere, which seems to almost add to the legitimacy of the report from Variety. Driver’s name has been hot though recently, so it’s not all that hard to believe he’s been up for the role. Darth Vader’s shoes are awfully large to fill, as movie villains don’t come any more iconic than the legendary Sith Lord.
It’s clear that Driver has a steep climb ahead of him, but he marks the first major role to be filled in Star Wars Episode VII and the floodgate may be about to open.
