The Independent Spirit Awards are here and some of the brightest rising stars in Hollywood are being honored for their indie work in 2013.

The biggest award of the night is Best Feature, as it could very well be setting up what we see at the Oscars tomorrow night. 12 Years a Slave has been unstoppable during awards season and the Spirit Awards showered the Steve McQueen film with its highest honor on Saturday. They missed the sweep of the three big categories thanks to Matthew McConaughey, which would have given  12 Years a Slave all four of the major awards, but three isn’t half bad.

It wasn’t a total prediction of what we will see at the Oscars tomorrow night, but there has been no film that has stood in the way of 12 Years a Slave this awards season. From the Golden Globe win to the BAFTA win and now a Spirit Award win, the film is sitting pretty heading into Oscar night and is now officially the film to beat.
