According to TMZ, director Richard Donner has confirmed a sequel to The Goonies 29 years after the original. Written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, the first instalment is a real cult classic that is still relevant to this day, and Donner claimed that ‘hopefully all’ of the original cast will appear in the upcoming second instalment.
Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and Corey Feldman all starred in the first film, and Brolin hinted in 2010 that a script was in the process for a potential sequel. There have been a plethora of rumours regarding a second Goonies film for many years, but now seems the most credible time that a second film could be made. When asked about a potential sequel, Feldman has always confirmed his interest.
While signing autographs, director of the first film – Richard Donner – confirmed that a second Goonies film is in the works, but gave little details about the when, where and why. ’80s kids everywhere smiled with elation.
