Spider-Man 2's Semi-Amazing Friday

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opened strong, but it won’t be breaking any records. It should get in the $90-95 million range for the weekend. That’s terrific by most standards, but for the first weekend of May, it’s below 2013’s Iron Man 3 ($174 mil) and 2012’s The Avengers ($207 mil). It’s more on par with 2008’s Iron Man ($98 mil). Between production and marketing, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 cost north of $400 million, so the studio has to be hoping it can at least equal the worldwide gross of the first movie ($752 million) if not surpass it.

1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – $35.5 million – 1 day
