Optimus Prime in TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, from Paramount Pictures.

Transformers 4 Stays #1

Despite three new wide releases as its competition and a 63.6% drop in its second week, Transformers: Age of Extinction held on to the #1 spot at the box office.

Trans4mers has already grossed $575 million worldwide. When Michael Bay said it was the beginning of a second trilogy, he’d have to do so with the confidence that this franchise would keep making money. He was right.

Meanwhile, Tammy was the first movie sold solely on Melissa McCarthy, and despite scathing reviews, it had a solid opening and will be profitable. It’s a testament to her star power, but she also needs to make sure she starts getting better material.

Deliver Us From Evil hoped to be this year’s The Conjuring, but buzz never built for it. Earth to Echo was a low-budget E.T. ripoff that did about as well as expected.
