The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were presented at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles this weekend. Mostly technical in nature, there were also a few performance awards thrown in as well. Among the big winners:

Saturday Night Live (NBC) – Emmy tally: 5SNL managed to win five Emmys as both a variety show (directing, costumes (shared with So You Think You Can Dance), non-prosthetic makeup, hairstyling) and comedy series (Best Guest Actor Jimmy Fallon).

67th Annual Tony Awards (CBS) – Emmy tally: 2 – While they took best in category (Special Class Program, i.e. best award show), I was more excited by their win for Original Music & Lyrics for the opening extravaganza “Bigger”. They had serious competition in this category, going up against SNL instant classic “Home for the Holiday (Twin Bed)” and the always hilarious Key & Peele, but I don’t think anything could stand in the way of Neil Patrick Harris, Mike Tyson, and magic tricks; a well deserved honor.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are live 8/25 at 8:00pm EST. Tune in here at FlickSided for my live blog of the show.
