Guardians of the Galaxy Still #1, As Above #4

Guardians of the Galaxy added some screens amidst weak competition and fell only 5%, meaning it will cross the $300 million mark domestically, and therefore the summer streak will continue. Every summer since 2002 has had at least one film cross the $300 million mark.

As fun as it may be (for me) to look at domestic box-office  jockeying, the big-budget films are made for the global market. Guardians is #8 for the year at $547 million. It’ll take heavy lifting to beat Transformers 4‘s $1 billion gross.

TMNT is at $274 million globally, with plenty of territories to go.

Of the new releases, the horror flick As Above/So Below and The November Man come out relatively the same. November Man got a couple days headstart. Who predicted The November Man would open higher than Sin City 2? Collect your prize!

Mexico’s modest Cantinflas biopic opened at #12.
