This might not last too long since it was “leaked” without permission (for shame), but the Comic-Con trailer for Superman Starman Flash Gordon Excalibur Thor is flying across the interwebs. I’m on record as saying this thing looks a bit silly and the five minutes you are about to see (maybe) did nothing to sway my opinion. The costumes appear to have been lifted from Stallone’s Judge Dredd and Anthony Hopkins’ Odin won’t stop screaming. On a positive note, Destroyer is pretty badass.

The Alien prequel may have found a writer.

I love news stories like this one. They don’t really tell us anything concrete, but are still labeled as “exclusive.” Anyway, Deadline has once gain dipped their silver scoop into the carton of Hollywood ice cream and pulled out this flavorful bit of info: Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof might be writing Ridley Scott’s planned Alien prequel. Or, he might be writing something completely different. Confuse us some more Deadline:

In a development as vexing as a Lost plotline, studio insiders said that while Lindelof indeed met with Scott and the studio for that rewrite job, the exchange of ideas between them sparked a take that could well turn out to be a free-standing science fiction film. The studio will decide when Lindelof turns it in.

Huh? Let me get this straight — Lindelof is either going to write a flick about acid-for-blood-aliens, or a flick that has nothing to do with acid-for-blood-aliens. Okalee dokalee.

Personally, I don’t give a hoot who scribes the thing. I just wanna see Scott direct another Alien movie. I’m certain some of you fellow Losties out there are bitching an moaning at the thought of Lindelof writing the script for fear he’ll butcher it like he did the Lost finale. Uh, get over yourselves already. I loved the show and had zero problem with the ending. How did you want it to wrap? With everyone returning home and resuming their sad, pathetic lives? With the island disappearing? Move on, people. It’s over.

Since exiting The Hobbit a couple months ago we’ve all been waiting to hear which movie director Guillermo del Toro would helm next. Looks like we have our answer. According to Deadline, he will shoot a 3D adaptation of the HP Lovecraft story At the Mountains of Madness. Coming aboard to produce will be none other than the King of the World himself, James Cameron. Damn, it’s like when Randy “Macho Man” Savage joined forces with Hulk Hogan to form the Megapowers. Rumor has it del Toro has a vicious leg drop.

What the hell is At the Mountains of Madness about you ask? Enlighten us Deadline:

In the Lovecraft tale, a gruesome discovery made during a scientific expedition to the South Pole in the 1930s hints at the true origin of mankind having come from elder gods from another planet. Bad things happen when those life forms are awakened.

Spooky. I used to read Lovecraft in college and thought his stuff was amazing. I also did a lot of shrooms during those days, so I could be confusing his writing with a psychotropic trip. Whatever the case, I am pumped to see what del Toro and Cameron will do with the material. As far as visionaries go, they are two of the very best.

Most casting news bores the sh*t out of me, but the combo of Meryl Streep and Tina Fey sounds enticing. According to THR, Sony has picked up the comedy Mommy & Me which will feature Streep and Fey playing mother and daughter. Stanley Tucci, who co-starred with Streep in The Devil Wears Prada and Julie & Julia, will direct the flick.

Streep has flexed her comedic muscles in recent years and Fey has proven herself to be as funny an actress as she is a writer. Watching the duo go toe-to-toe has major potential, even though the movie will probably lean toward the chick flick demo. Storylines are locked in a super-secret vault buried deep beneath the Sony lot, so you’ll have to use your imagination to envision what the plot will entail. Although, a scene where Streep catches Fey having sex seems like a certainty.

When I think about Ugandan action movies, and I do quite a bit, they don’t get any better than Who Killed Captain Alex from the Michael Bay of Uganda, Ramon Film Productions, or RFP to those in the know. It has intense violence, thrilling fight scenes, inventive special effects and a guy dressed as a jockey firing a machine gun. Glorious.

Dinner for Schmucks star Steve Carell isn't hurting for work.

Stepping aside from The Office has opened the door even further for Steve Carell to land more big screen roles playing socially awkward timid and or weird guys who aren’t very funny. According to Risky Business, DreamWorks has acquired rights to a comedy pitch called Raised By Wolfs, which Carell will star in and produce. “Wolfs” is apparently the character’s last name, hence the oh so clever misspelling. Wocka, wocka!

I have nothing against Carell. He comes across as a likable guy and he’s been money at the box office lately. That being said, his act is getting old. I loved him on The Daily Show, and Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin were good for a few big laughs, but none of the stuff he’s done since has impressed me. Evan Almighty, Dan in Real Life and Get Smart were entirely forgettable and Tina Fey saved Date Night from disaster. Dinner for Schmucks looks… um… bad. (Of course that won’t prevent it from banking serious coin this weekend.)

Problem is, Carell is pretty much a one trick pony. Like Chevy Chase back in the ’80s, playing the same character over and over will only take you so far. Stevie boy is riding a huge wave of success right now, but it won’t last much longer if he doesn’t branch out from the oddball outcast character. Eventually, audiences will grow tired of his schtick.

While all the hipsters, geeks and sellouts were creaming their jeans shorts and cargo pants over at Comic-Con this past weekend, I was hanging at the other big convention being held in San Diego: Pacey-Con. For all you outside the loop nitwits, Pacey-Con celebrates the greatness of Pacey Witter, the most awesome TV character ever created for the most awesome TV show ever created, Dawson’s Creek.

It was four fun-filled days of basking in the glow of bad boy/romantic at heart Pacey Witter’s essence. He regaled me with stories of his life in the tiny coastal hamlet of Capeside, Massachusetts and also revealed the true nature of his three best friends: Jen is a BJ Queen, Joey is frigid and Dawson is gay. Then we hit the local bars and pounded shots of Sambuca. Pacey got really shi*faced, vomited several times and yelled repeatedly how he hated his father. On the final night of Pacey-Con 2010, he was gracious enough to invite all his dedicated fans back to his room at the Econo Lodge for a convention closing gala. I was the only one who showed, which was awkward at first, but it turned out okay as we ended up snorting rails off a hooker’s ass who bore a striking resemblance to Dawson’s mom, Gail. Weird, but epic. Hands down, the best weekend of my life.

Oh, and here’s a video that explains what Pacey-Con is all about. I can’t wait until next year!

Since the internet is gaga over the trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming flick Sucker Punch, I feel obligated to post it, minus the hyperbole. Set in the 1950s, it tells the tale of a girl sent to the loony bin to be lobotomized who must free herself from the alternate reality created insider her own mind. Aiding in her endeavors are a quartet of nubile young gals with cutesy names like Rocket and Sweet Pea. Hmm… a movie about escaping a dreamworld sounds familiar. Can’t put my finger on it though. Anyway, here’s the trailer for Sucker Punch, which opens in March of 2011. Prepare to be have your mind melded by its amazing awesomeness. Or not.

Vanilla Sky is weird, but the most confusing movie ever?

With Inception currently bending the minds of many moviegoers, there’s a lot of chatter about the most confusing films of all time. A recent poll conducted by a British DVD website called LoveFilm asked its patrons to name the flick that boggled them most. Topping the list was Vanilla Sky. Interesting choice, I guess. I’d call it strange, but not all that confusing. Perhaps if people watched Open Your Eyes, the Spanish movie its based on, it would make more sense.

Other titles making the cut were Mulholland Drive, Donnie Darko and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Hard to argue with those, especially Mulholland Drive, which still has me scratching my head after three viewings. Another David Lynch offering, Lost Highway, deserves strong consideration, as do The Nines, Stalker and Schizopolis. Got another? Let us know.

Bloodletting and brain bashing. Just another normal episode of True Blood.

Before I get to my customary praise for this week’s episode, I’d like to express my disappointment with where the writers are taking the Sam and Jason storylines. Neither is holding my interest in the least. Sam’s birth parents are pure white trash who use Sam’s shapeshifting brother in dogfights. Yawn. Jason has the hots for a shewolf who’s engaged. Big whoop. Can we just skip all that crap and get to the good stuff involving Sookie, Bill, Eric and Russell? I realize the show needs secondary plots in order to let the main one breathe, but I think they could do better than family and girl trouble.

Here are three things I liked about episode six:

1. The image of Lorena wearing Sookie’s ribcage as a hat had me laughing. That Lorena really is one ice cold vamp.

2. “I hate your fu*king guts, Eric Northman!” Sookie’s weekly insult was a beauty. She uttered it with such vitriol.

3. The hissy fit pitched by Queen Sophie-Anne after she got played by Russell and Eric. I could seriously watch Evan Rachel Wood act all day long.

That’s all I got. Until next week…
