TheSmurfsmovieis a lot of fun for the kids, and there’s no doubt that you wanted to take them to the theaters. The problem is the movies now cost a fortune for a small family, and there have been some exciting releases this year.
So, there are high chances that you’re waiting for a streaming release for a few movies here and there, withSmurfsbeing on the list. The good news is it will come to streaming, and the better news is you won’t need to wait as long as you would for the likes ofThe Bad Guys 2.
Smurfswill head to Paramount+
As a Paramount Pictures movie, Paramount+ is the first streaming home. This makes sense when you consider each of the studios are now trying to keep their content in-house for streaming.
It doesn’t mean it will always stay here. After a few months or years, we do see the movies head to other streaming platforms. However, Paramount+ tends to keep their content for some time. Just look at how long the likes ofSonic the HedgehogandPAW Patrolhave remained exclusive to the platform!
When couldSmurfshead to the streamer?
So, how long are we expecting to wait? Not that long, especially compared toThe Bad Guys 2, and not just because it hit theaters earlier in the summer.
Paramount Pictures movies tend to go to a streaming platform around 45 days after the theatrical release, with many studios now moving away from the 90-day theatrical window. So, we’re looking at sometime in early-to-mid-September.
We should have it before summer comes to an end officially. Yes, I know some people follow the first of the months for their quarters and seasons, but I follow the equinoxes and solstices for mine.
There’s already a Digital release date
In some even more exciting news, we already know thatSmurfswill head to Digital very soon. The official release date on Digital is Friday, Aug. 15. A lot of Digital releases usually happen on Tuesdays, but there has been a move recently for some releases to get Friday dates, especially when it comes to kids’ movies.
The DVD release date isn’t set just yet. It took around three months for fellow Paramount Pictures movieNovocaineto head to DVD after its theatrical release, so we could see something similar here. That would put the release at around the middle of October.
