4 Actors who surprisingly have not won an Oscar

With titles like Django Unchained and Mission Impossible under their belts, you'd expect these actors to have Oscar wins, except they don't.

Tonight, the best movies and performances will be recognized during the 97th edition of the Oscars. In what will be one of the more open races we've seen for many of the awards, it will be exciting to see who comes on top, especially in the "Big Five" categories.

And with the annual celebration of the best performances comes a reminder of snubs and those who have yet to see an Oscar win.

Below are four actors, who suprisingly have yet to see an Oscar win, despite being among the prominent people in the industry.

1. Samuel L. Jackson

If there's one thing about Samuel L. Jackson, it's a guarantee that the film he appears in will be a box office banger. From lending his voice to Frozone in The Incredibles to playing Nick Fury in the Marvel franchise to his role as Mace Windu in the Star Wars Franchise, it's no secret that Jackson is one of the most versatile actors out there. But arguably, his most riveting role is the one that should've yielded him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor when he starred as Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction. The stunning and intense performance was one of six movies he did with Quentin Tarantino, sadly lost to Martin Landau, who played Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood.

2. Tom Cruise

Continuing the theme of actors who are no strangers to movies that do very well at the box office, Tom Cruise is another actor who has yet to see an Academy win. We've seen him in the cockpit as Maverick in Top Gun or even performing a few of his own stunts in the Mission Impossible franchise, but we've yet to hear an Oscars acceptance speech from the A-lister. On that note, Cruise has received actor nominations three times, with two being for actor and one for supporting. However, he struck out in all three tries to get one of the most coveted awards.

3. Willem Dafoe

The next actor on the list is one who actually starred in Born on the Fourth of July, which was the film that yielded Cruise a supporting nomination. Willem Dafoe, who has appeared in over 100 films throughout his life, has been nominated four times for an Oscar but has yet to see an award victory. We can only hope that his time will come soon, as he's one of the more respected actors in Hollywood and does a great job with every role he takes on.

4. Bradley Cooper

Last but certainly not least is Bradley Cooper, who has played everything from a talking raccoon to an American sniper. However, despite his versatility, Cooper has yet to garner an Oscar Award. His best role, in my opinion, was when he played a singer battling mental illness, Jackson Maine, in A Star is Born, a film that he directed, starred in, and produced. The movie, which also saw a powerful singing performance from Lady Gaga and him with "Shallow," had a rough night at The Oscars, as Remi Malek beat Cooper for Best Actor for his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
