Film companies and streaming services try to prepare detailed, targeted release schedules, particularly for the fall/winter seasons when viewers spend more time both in movie theaters and at home watching streaming services. Yet, those schedules can be overburdened with as many movies being in front of the viewers, making it hard for them to make a meaningful selection.
This time around, preparing for the fall/winter season of 2025, Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios decided to focus on eight key releases they have prepared both for the streaming service and theatres as to make it a bit easier for the viewers to make a selection of films they should give priority to. It is quite a select list, with the involvement of quite a few renowned film stars and directors and covering a diverse genres, to cover the widest possible number of viewers.

Play Dirty
Starting off the season on Wednesday, Oct. 1, exclusively for Prime Video viewers is Play Dirty, an action thriller featuring Mark Wahlberg, LaKeith Stanfield, Rosa Salazar, among others, and directed by Shane Black. As the storyline goes, an expert thief (Wahlberg) and his crew come up with a big score that in turn pits them against the New York Mob.
This just might be the right treat for the fans of Mark Wahlberg movies, but also all the action film thrill seekers. Hopefully, there is enough twists and turns in the plot to make this movie something a wider audience will like too.
After the Hunt
Following Play Dirty is a big theatrical release on Friday, Oct. 10, After The Hunt, a psychological drama featuring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, and directed by Luca Guadagnino. The streaming date for this film is to yt to be announced.
After the Hunt, follows a college professor (Roberts) faces a serious personal dilemma when her best student accuses one of her colleagues, threatening to expose one of the dark secrets from her past. This seems to be an intriguing psychological drama, something that quite a few viewers will be able to relate to.

John Candy: I Like Me
Also on Friday, Oct. 10, Prime Video will start streaming a documentary about legendary comedian John Candy titled John Candy: I Like Me, directed by Colin Hanks and produced by longtime John Candy fan Ryan Reynolds. While exploring Candy’s life and works, and features some exclusive content not available so far.
Even though he departed early, John Candy left behind him quite a hefty body of comedy work to deserve the title of a legend. He took part in over 40 feature films, left a series of unfinished ones and participated in TV programs such as Saturday Night Live and SCTV Network,
Hedda
The fans of classical theatre themes and international productions should mark Wednesday, Oct. 22 on their calendars, as on that day, one film theatre and one streaming feature will start showing.
Theatre goers will have a chance to see Hedda, a modern interpretation of a classic Henrik Ibsen play, with Tessa Thompson and Imogen Poots in key roles and directed by Nia DaCosta.
Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault)
At the same time, Prime Video will start showing Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault), the third and final installment of a very popular Spanish-language romance trilogy. This is a Prime Video adaptation of Culpables series by Mercedes Ron, where the first two parts, My Fault and Your Fault, reached quite a number of viewers.
Our Fault continues the story of Noah and Nick, as they continue to navigate issues within their relationship. Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara reprise their roles from the first two installments, and Domingo González is back as director.

Tyler Perry's Finding Joy
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Prime Video will start streaming another film from the very popular production company led by Tyler Perry, Tyler Perry’s Finding Joy. Directed by Perry and featuring Shannon Thornton, Tosin Morohunfola, Brittany S. Hall, Inayah, and others, it is a story of a very talented New York fashion designer stifled by her boss and with love troubles as well, where a holiday trip to Colorado brings some serious changes in her life.
As an actor, filmmaker, playwright and producer, Perry was able to establish quite a big conglomerate both with his stage plays and films. With quite a divers series of films and TV series, Perry was able to garner a wide following and serious viewership.

Oh. What. Fun!
What would a pre-Christmas season be without a Christmas-themed movie, and on Wednesday, Dec. 3, Prime Video viewers can start watching one such feature, Oh. What. Fun! , with a multitude of stars, starting with Michelle Pfeiffer, Felicity Jones, along with Jason Schwartzman, Eva Longoria and Joan Chen, promising some serious Christmas season fun.
Big-name casts for Christmas season films have become quite a common thing, sometimes with a good plot and sometimes not so good plot and production. Yet, such films always attract large audiences. After all, you don't really need a serious plot in a film during the Christmas season.
